What a night!
Hundreds attended the launch, a great working social event.
For all the attempts to crush the spirit of the Animal Liberation Movement here was clear proof
that they have no chance! The atmosphere was electric.
The food was delicious and plentiful.
The speeches were inspirational - from Keith
(usually described as a terrorist but more recently as a "successful author"), Mel Broughton of the
SPEAK campaign, PETA Europe Director Poorva Joshipura, Ramona Africa of the US Move organisation
and Ronnie Lee, one of the founders of the ALF. All raised the atmosphere and pressed the
need for persistence. Ingrid Newkirk (PETA founder) and Benjamin Zephaniah (vegan campaigner and poet) sent messages.
The audience heard of the spine chilling Thames Valley Police recordings exposing that
force's sinister targeting of animal rights campaigners, of the violence inflicted on
peaceful campaigners in the US, the rescuers in China saving cats destined for the pot, the
raiders in Russia breaking into labs and fur farms...
The positivity of on-going global
efforts to free animals from human slavery was heartening. All this interspersed with film
footage from across the world including the buoyant 5000 strong march through Barcelona
against bullfighting,
media coverage of radical action in France, and the moving story of Britches, the iconic cover
boy of the book.
Keith spent the night signing books for eager readers. Those who had already read it had
nothing but praise for the author and pride in being part of the incredible story he
has so spectacularly documented.
A special night for the launch of an incredible book left all who attended enthused by the global spread of a movement forcing the pace of change.
